A Collection of Photographs Capturing Resilience & Hope.
Discover the inspiring stories of communities rebuilding their lives after the devastating floods of '21. This collection of photographs and narratives captures the unwavering spirit of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
In the aftermath of the flood, this series of portraits honors the silent strength of survivors. Each image tells a story of endurance, quiet courage, and the power of the human spirit to rise after disaster. Through the lens, we witness not just survival, but the unwavering will to rebuild, to heal, and to stand tall — despite the scars left behind.
This series was created over a period of two years, starting just four weeks after the catastrophic floods in Belgium in 2021. It shares the deeply human stories of residents, volunteers & entire communities navigating loss & recovery. Behind the camera, Wendy was not just an observer — she actively supported & volunteered during these moments, making this work as personal as it is documentary.
One of the photographs from this collection was honored with the National Geographic Award, and contributed to Wendy being named International Artist of the Year 2025 and Premier Artist 2025. These recognitions reflect the profound emotional impact and visual strength of the series — a tribute to resilience, community, and the quiet force of rebuilding.
